The Bombardier Transportation Bautzen site with its approx. 1,050 staff and more than 160 years of tradition is the largest industrial employer in the Bautzen region.
Its core competences are the development and manufacturing of complete trams and light rail vehicles according to the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS). In the last four years its testing facilities were expanded by adding an 800-m up-speed test track and an 850-m test ring. The test ring allows „burn-in” tests on trams and light rail systems to be carried out. Long-term tests can be performed thus simulating typical operating performance. Early failures can be recognized instantly. Complete type tests as well as briefing driving personnel of the respective transport operator can be done directly on the test track.
The manufacturing capacity is for up to 200 light rail vehicles per year in cooperation with the Bombardier site in Vienna, Austria. Highly motivated expert staff forms the basis for hi-tech on rail for customers from all over the world. The Bautzen site works on several projects in cooperation with the Technical University of Dresden and has strengthend this partnership by founding the „Bombardier Center of Competence for Railway Systems Engineering and Integration”.
