Our core competence is research in the field of thermo-mechanical reliability of microcomponents and microsystems. More and more problems in the field of nanomaterials have been dealt with, too ("nanoreliability").

The competence both includes simulation and combination with modern experiments.- Mechanical and thermal reliability analysis- Evaluation of components and systems in automotive electronics, microelectronics and microsystem technology- Micro- and nanomaterials testing and reliability evaluation - Reliability of solder joints- Lifetime estimation and optimisation of high-tech components and systems- Development and application of new measuring techniques for advanced deformation analysis (from macro to nano), (nanoDAC -Fraunhofer award 2005)- Advanced packaging reliability analysis (ASME award, USA, 2000)- Foundation and coordination of the European Center for Micro- and Nanoreliability (EUCEMAN, see www.euceman.com)- Safety, security and reliability and miniaturisation combined by "microsecurity research"- Editorship of "International Journal Microsystem Technologies" (Springer)and "Micromaterials and Nanomaterials" (Fraunhofer).
